Orchid Tree

Kate & Mark's Head Table
Base of Tree
Last weekend's wedding not only included the backdrop in my last post, but this spectacular curly willow tree on the head table, covered in blooms of orchids with hanging candles.  The base was mounded with ivory rose petals and additional orchid stems, accented by floating candles in clear cylinders.  The tree itself was over 7' tall.  The bride and groom also gave each guest a fragrant freesia stem or orchid floret tucked into the silver napkins.

Pretty Ceremony Backdrop

Denise from Waukesha Floral made this beautiful ceremony backdrop for a wedding this weekend at the Pilot House on the upper floor of Pier Wisconsin.  She covered pipe and drape with satin and suspended clear glass vases and orchid florets along translucent strings.  The vases were filled with water and filled with Hydrangea, calla lilies, Ranunculous and orchids.  The backdrop helped make the room very special without blocking the spectacular Lake Michigan view.  The reflection of the water in the vases brought sparkle to the wedding.  More pictures to follow!

Cool Containers in Hot Summer Colors

We all love this new pottery that just came in!  These shiny Italian pots are non-breakable and get part of their cool look from the inner lining of pure white.  The colors are great... tomato red, ocean blue, tangerine, plum purple, juicy orange and fuchsia red. Wonderful as containers for plants or flower arrangements, they just say "summer" to us!

Thanks, Dad

Sunday is Father's Day!  Here's a picture of my dad.  Let me tell you a little about him.  Richard grew up during the depression and told the story of having a pet pig on the farm.  Of course, that pig also had to feed the family... a thought we city girls didn't care for.  He lost his father early in life and took care of his mother, brothers and sister as best he could, and entered the Navy during WWII.  In Japan he witnessed first hand the devastating effects of the atomic bomb drop in Nagasaki, which is something he still doesn't like thinking about.  Richard was a devoted husband and father, working at Miller Brewery for over 41 years, and has always been active in his church.  After retiring, he cared for my mother while she battled cancer, faithful to the end of her life.  He never missed a grandparent's day, a birthday or Christmas gifts for his entire family.  Just a few months ago, Richard had a difficult aneurysm removed and was out of the hospital in just 6 short days, to the amazement of his doctors.  He is probably a lot like your own father... an ordinary man with a heart of gold that few people know about!

So thank your dad on Father's Day, maybe give him a few flowers, or if your dad is no longer with you, think of him and say a prayer of thanks for the blessing of him in your life.
